Findings

Calendula showed promise for acute wounds—animal studies and one human trial found it sped up the inflammation phase and boosted healing tissue growth. For chronic wounds like leg ulcers and burns, results were inconsistent: it helped some venous ulcers shrink but didn't improve diabetic ulcers or burn healing in human trials.

Methodology

Researchers reviewed 14 published studies (7 in animals, 7 in humans) from medical databases through April 2018 to compare calendula extract against control treatments for different types of wound healing.
