Findings

Calendula showed promise for acute wounds—animal studies and one clinical trial found it sped up the inflammation phase and boosted healing tissue growth. But results were mixed for chronic wounds, burns, and radiation damage, with some studies showing benefits and others showing none.

Methodology

Researchers reviewed 14 published studies (7 animal, 7 human trials) from major medical databases through April 2018 to see if calendula extract alone actually heals wounds better than doing nothing or using other treatments.
