Researchers tested a new form of vitamin C bonded with squalene (a natural skin lipid) on human skin samples and found it increased skin thickness and boosted collagen type III production after 10 days. This squalene-vitamin C combo also outperformed standard vitamin C and vitamin C-palmitate at stimulating glycosaminoglycans, which help skin hold moisture.
Scientists applied different vitamin C formulations to human skin tissue samples in a lab setting, then analyzed the samples under a microscope and measured changes in protein and gene expression over 10 days.
