Researchers created a new hyaluronic acid filler using lysine (an amino acid) instead of the traditional chemical cross-linker, which is less irritating. In a 50-person study, this new filler outperformed Restylane at the 12-month mark, with more volume retention, and it boosted collagen production and skin thickness with minimal side effects.
The team tested the filler's physical properties in the lab, then evaluated how it affected skin cells and wound healing. They also injected it into 50 patients with nasolabial folds (those lines between your nose and mouth) and compared results to Restylane over a year.
