Findings

The expert panel reviewed safety data on benzoic acid and related preservatives/fragrance ingredients and concluded they're safe at current cosmetic use levels. However, the panel previously noted there wasn't enough data on what happens when you inhale these ingredients—that gap appears to remain unresolved in this assessment.
