After 10 weeks, people taking omega-3 supplements (2,000 mg) or gamma-linolenic acid from borage oil (400 mg) saw significant decreases in both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions compared to a control group. Skin biopsies showed reduced inflammation and lower levels of interleukin-8, a protein that drives acne. No serious side effects were reported.
45 people with mild to moderate acne were split into three groups: one taking omega-3 fatty acids, one taking gamma-linolenic acid, and one taking nothing. Researchers tracked lesion counts, patient feedback, and skin samples over 10 weeks.
