Meadowfoam seed oil works as well as castor oil and octyldodecanol at dispersing color pigments in lipstick, with similar particle sizes (6-9 µm) and wetting ability. The meadowfoam lipstick had the lowest friction and good hardness at 40% pigment concentration, though octyldodecanol gave the best color payoff overall.
Researchers made lipstick pigment dispersions using three different oils at varying concentrations, then tested how well each oil kept pigments evenly distributed. They measured texture, spreadability, color intensity, and stability over 4 weeks.
