Aloe vera contains active compounds (aloe-emodin, aloin, aloesin, acemannan) that show anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound-healing properties in lab and animal studies. Most research so far is preliminary—while results look promising for skin protection, digestion, and potentially cancer/diabetes/bone health, actual human clinical trials are limited and mostly just test whole aloe vera, not isolated ingredients.
This is a review of existing research published between 2014-2019, analyzing in vitro (lab), in vivo (animal), and clinical trial studies on aloe vera and its compounds.
