Aloe vera has solid evidence for anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound-healing properties, which backs up its traditional use for burns, cuts, and eczema. However, most research is still happening in labs (in vitro and animal studies)—there are very few human clinical trials, so we can't yet confirm how well it actually works on real skin.
This was a literature review that analyzed pharmacological studies published between 2014-2019, looking at lab studies, animal research, and clinical trials to identify which compounds in aloe vera are actually responsible for its effects.
