Aloe vera has solid traditional backing for treating burns, cuts, and eczema—and recent research confirms anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. However, most evidence comes from lab and animal studies; human clinical trials are limited, so we don't yet have strong proof it works the same way in real skin. The compounds doing the heavy lifting are aloe-emodin, aloin, and acemannan, but we need more human testing to know what dose and format actually matter.
This was a review of existing pharmacological studies published between 2014-2019, examining lab tests, animal studies, and human trials to map what we know about aloe vera's active ingredients and how they work.
