Findings

Over a third of Americans (34.7%) report health problems like migraines and breathing issues from fragranced products—and that includes 'green' and 'organic' ones. 15% have actually lost work time or jobs because of fragrance exposure, and 20% will leave a store immediately if they smell air fresheners. The kicker: most people don't know fragranced products emit hazardous air pollutants, but over 60% would stop using them if they did.

Methodology

Researchers surveyed 1,136 American adults online about their experiences with fragranced products, health effects, and workplace exposure. This was the first large US study to look at how widespread fragrance-related health problems actually are.
