Findings

This review analyzed 39 high-quality clinical trials with 2,009 people total. Pycnogenol (French maritime pine bark extract) showed benefits for skin health specifically, plus cardiovascular health, joint health, and several other conditions when taken for 2 weeks to 6 months. The extract works through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms that may support skin's structural proteins (collagen/elastin).

Methodology

Researchers reviewed 39 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials—the gold standard in research. This means participants didn't know if they got the real extract or placebo, eliminating bias.
