Findings

In mice with atopic dermatitis, aspalathin (a compound that makes up over 40% of green rooibos) reduced redness, scaling, and skin thickening when applied topically. It also lowered inflammation markers and immune response signals both in the skin and throughout the body, including reducing allergy-related antibodies (IgE and IgG2a) in the bloodstream.

Methodology

Researchers tested aspalathin on mice with atopic dermatitis using topical application, then examined skin samples under a microscope and measured inflammatory markers in skin tissue and immune cells.
